Management Information Control Systems, Inc. Builder Information System: Contractors One Stop Accoun
Cesar Bosio, Founder & PresidentIn 1983 after finding existing accounting applications to be radically inadequate, especially for construction accounting and effective job cost control, Cesar Bosio, Founder and President of Management Information Control Systems (MICS), determined to find a better solution, developed Builder Information System (BIS®). Since then, BIS has been maximizing contractor productivity and providing real-time job cost analysis for thousands of specialty and general contractors. A construction accounting software is more than just a bookkeeping application and understanding this Bosio designed BIS as a complete construction management, accounting and job costing software that enables end-users to manage their financials effectively.
Exclusively focused on the construction industry, MICS’ primary target audiences are the residential and commercial general contractors. Bosio and his talented team has made BIS an advanced, yet intuitive accounting application that does not require an undue amount of time and training to set up; users can be up and running in BIS very quickly. Real-time visibility is of paramount importance in the construction business, and BIS being driven by real-time processing and not the clumsy batch processing, eliminates the need for contractors to wait till the end of the month for financial statements and job status reports, which has a very high potential for loss. MICS also has a BIS mobile application for Android that gives users the ability to remotely access all the necessary information on the fly.
Some of the modules available in the impressive BIS suite that empowers contractors and their financial teams are; General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Subcontract Control and the all-important Job Costing as well as a nifty Report Server that can automatically generate and deliver one or many reports on a recurring basis to people inside and outside an organization. When all these handy modules are coupled with ease-of-use and real-time visibility, they effectively save enterprises’ valuable time, labor and in the long run, a considerable amount of capital as well.
BIS offers the much needed real-time visibility that is of paramount importance in today’s construction business
MICS has helped a number of clients manage thousands of projects over the years by providing relevant and timely information through intuitive functionality which improves the efficiency of a contractor, thereby maximizing their margins. According to Sharon Clements from Clements General Construction; the Payroll module alone has saved their company $45,000 a year, by allowing them to eliminate one person in overhead.
MICS has custom Report Writing and Application services available to further extend the functionality of BIS. The seamless ntegration of an ADP General Ledger Interface File Custom Application within BIS that MICS developed for Oliver and Company facilitated them to import their first ADP interface file without any hassle. “After adding the one job and cost code to the budget, the import came through, I balanced the batch and voila! I reviewed the job cost report and all of the transactions reported in the order we needed,” says Margaret Garde, Senior Accountant at Oliver and Company.
In this increasingly competitive world, being ahead of the curve and with their unwavering attention to customer feedback helps the team at MICS evolve continuously, in turn improving
efficiencies for their customers and keeping it ahead of the pack. “We constantly improve. Even though we’ve been doing this for over 30 years, not a single day goes by without us thinking about improving,” says Bosio. Looking to the future, Bosio intends to take a deeper dive into the mobile application and add more management capabilities to BIS; always focusing on improving its scalability and functionalities from an accounting and job costing perspective.
